Hi Renee,

Veins carry blood back to the heart, so generally they carry deoxygenated blood. Two veins are an exception, being the pulmonary and umbilical veins.

The pulmonary vein carries oxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart. The umbilical vein carries oxygenated blood from the placenta to the fetus.

Arteries carry blood away from the heart, so generally they carry oxygenated. Again, two arteries are the exception, being the pulmonary and umbilical arteries.

The pulmonary artery carried deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs. umbilical arteries carry deoxygenated blood from the fetus to the placenta.

Hope this helps!
