Can you carry a guitar on a plane with you without a case?

I'm going on a 45 min flight to LA and want to take my guitar but I don't have case. Do you think I could carry it on with me? It's a medium size aucoustic.Can you carry a guitar on a plane with you without a case?
You might be able to, but I dont recommend bring it on board. There is a lot of stuff on board a plane (carry on bags, briefcases, backpacks etc.. ) and any one of those things might damage a guitar. Also, a guitar doesnt fit underneath the seat in front of you and its dangerous to put it on the ground in your asle (might stick out into the walk way and make somebody trip or somebody might step on it)

Yes, you would be able to, but you would be required to purchase a seat for your guitar unless you want to risk putting it in the cargo hold.
You have to ask the airline you will be flying with, and also ask what type of aircraft is planned for the flight you are booked on.





Most aircraft will have cupboards in the cabin, or closet space for hanging coats, especially in the business- or first-class section. You need to ask about the size of the space, and if it will accommodate a guitar. Other aircraft may have space behind seats and, while it is preferable to have everything stowed so that it cannot move during takeoff and landing, some do make exceptions.





On commuter aircraft, storage space is usually very limited, but an airline MIGHT permit you to carry the guitar on board if you strap it onto an empty seat ...they MAY allow this if the passenger count is low.





Whether you fly on a smaller commuter or large aircraft, this extra seat option may be available at extra cost but the cost would not necessarily be a full adult fare. It could be a lower charge, as for an infant, which is typically 10%.
